Diamond Orthopedic Completes Forefoot Fusion Surgery

Company expands clinical applications of innovative threadform

Diamond Orthopedic, LLC has completed the first successful use of its innovative threadform screw for forefoot fusion surgery.

“Our goal is to selectively expand our product offering in applications where the biomechanical advantages of the faceted screw are most evident,” says CEO Roy Bivens, “including indications where strong fixation is paramount and in compromised bone, among others.”

In this case a 72-year-old female with crossover second toe deformity resulting in metatarsalgia and a plantar plate tear received an osteotomy of the second metatarsal to repair the plantar plate. Diamond’s faceted headless compression screw was utilized to fuse the toe to correct the deformity. The surgeon selected Diamond’s screw for this application due to the potential superior performance of the faceted threadform design in patients with osteopenia.

Diamond’s patented faceted bone screw reduces insertion torque and produces fixation with less compressive stress than traditional helical threadforms. The resulting fixation is due to improved osteo-integration between the facets of the implanted device and the bone.
